Arab League information ministers begin talks on peace initiative, media

    Cairo, 20 June: The 40th session of the Arab Information Ministers' Council began meetings under Lebanon's chairmanship here on Wednesday [20 June].

    Information Minister Anas Fiqi is leading the Egyptian delegation.

    The ministers held a behind-closed-door session before the opening ceremony.

    The current session will tackle the Arab media's role in implementing the resolutions of Riyadh summit regarding the Arab Peace Initiative as well as holding dialogue among various civilisations.

    The session will also discuss the role of Arab media in fighting terrorism and forming an Arab committee for e-media.

    The ministers will look into a request by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to attend the council meetings as an observer.
