Cairo, 1 September: The Ministry of Awqaf denounced Saturday [1 September] the publication of a blasphemous caricature insulting Islam's Prophet Muhammad.

Such irresponsible acts would not serve relations between the Islamic world and the West, the ministry said in a statement.

The statement urged authorities concerned in Sweden to take necessary action against the newspaper and demanded an immediate apology to all Muslim for these insults.

It renewed a call for a UN resolution prohibiting disdain of religions.

A similar act by a Danish newspaper in September of 2005 triggered off a wave of protest across the Islamic world that led to the boycott of Danish products by many Islamic countries.
