This study investigates the framing of Palestinian women in Al Jazeera’s coverage of the most recent war on the Gaza Strip, aiming to reveal how media narratives may reinforce stereotypes or marginalize the multifaceted roles of women in Palestinian society. Employing a quantitative content analysis within a framing theory framework, the research analyzes 91 episodes of Al Jazeera’s 9:00 PM news bulletins aired between October 10, 2023, and January 10, 2024.
Findings indicate that Al Jazeera’s coverage predominantly constructed Palestinian women through victimhood frames, emphasizing visual portrayals of grief, suffering, and humanitarian appeals. The recurring depiction of veiled women served as a symbolic reference to cultural and religious identity, yet simultaneously contributed to homogenized and passive representations. The study highlights the underrepresentation of Palestinian women as agents of resistance, community leaders, or active participants in political and social spheres.
The research concludes by advocating for a broader and more inclusive framing strategy that reflects the complex and active roles Palestinian women occupy in conflict and society. A more diverse narrative would challenge reductive stereotypes and contribute to a more equitable and contextually grounded representation of gender in conflict reporting.

تأطير حضور المرأة الفلسطينية في تغطية قناة الجزيرة للحرب الأخيرة على قطاع غزة

الملخص

تهدف الدراسة إلى تحليل الكيفية التي أطّرت بها قناة الجزيرة حضور المرأة الفلسطينية خلال تغطيتها للحرب الأخيرة على قطاع غزة؛ وذلك للكشف عن طبيعة الأطر الإعلامية المستخدمة، ومدى تأثيرها في تشكيل الصور النمطية وتعزيزها أو تهميش الأدوار المتنوعة التي تؤديها المرأة الفلسطينية في المجتمع، واعتمدت منهج المسح باستخدام أداة تحليل المضمون؛ حيث تم تحليل محتوى نشرات أخبار الساعة التاسعة على قناة الجزيرة خلال الفترة من 10 أكتوبر 2023 وحتى 10 يناير 2024، وبلغ عددها 91 نشرة إخبارية. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى أن قناة الجزيرة ركزت على تصوير المرأة الفلسطينية بصفتها ضحية للعدوان، وأكدت في تغطيتها على مشاهد الحزن والبكاء واستجداء الدعم الإنساني، مع تركيز على النساء المحجبات بصفتها جزءًا من الهوية الثقافية والدينية؛ مما عزز الصور النمطية للمرأة بصفتها عنصرا ضعيفا وغير فاعل، كما أوصت الدراسة بضرورة تنويع الأطر الإعلامية المستخدمة لتغطية حضور المرأة الفلسطينية، بما يشمل أدوارها القيادية والاجتماعية والثقافية، وليس الاقتصار على الأطر الإنسانية والعاطفية.
