["Prince Nayif patronizes joint meeting" - spa headline]

Riyadh, Nov 7, SPA -- Prince Nayif Bin Abd-al-Aziz, the interior minister, patronized here yesterday the joint meeting for the organs of the security media and the Arab information media.

Speaking on the occasion, Prince Nayif underlined the importance of enhancing cooperation between the security media and the Arab information media.

He called for developing the skills of the security organs and the media.

He noted that confrontation of crime notably terrorism requires cooperation of the concerned parties for the protection of the society.

Prince Nayif said terrorism which has become an international phenomenon, requires, in addition to a firm security action, an effective media efforts.

He highlighted the role which could be played by the media institutions in confronting violence, terrorism and extremism.

Prince Nayif said the role of the citizen is very important as rega! rds prevention of the occurrence of the crime, and added 'we are looking for the media to shoulder its responsibility in this regards'.

He hoped that the meeting will meet the aspirations of the Arabs and lead to an integration in the relationship of the media with the security organs.

The meeting was organized by the secretariat general of the council of the Arab interior ministers.

Prince Nayif is the honorary president of the council of the Arab interior ministers.

On his part, secretary general of the council of the Arab interior ministers Dr Mohammed Ali Koman said it is necessary to enhance the role of the security media in protecting the Arab nations from dangers.

He called for the awareness of the youth and to keeping them away from the deviant ideas and terror organizations.

Meanwhile, Ali Naji, the editor-in-chief of Sanaa-based Al-Thawra newspaper, underscored the important role of the media in the awareness of the people.

He called for coordination and cooperation of the Arab media for con fronting the challenges and dangers of crime.

The function was attended by a number of senior officials.
